10 COLD & FLU BUSTING PICK ME UPS



It's getting to that time of year again where the cold & flu virus is rife and we're coughing and spluttering!  Last week I was feeling a little under the weather, I had the usual sore throat, runny nose and I'm sure I was suffering from the deadly man flu, thankfully I survived!  When I feel like that there is very little I can be bothered with, however there are a few things that I always do that I know will help get me back on track and out of my misery pit!  So, if like me you ever feel a little under the weather and need a little pick me be sure to try these out.

1. CANCEL EVERYTHING! 
When I'm not feeling my best the last thing I want to do is entertain or be friendly, so I usually cancel all my plans.  It's usually best for everyone as I don't want to pass on my germs but also my body is run down so all I really need is some down time and a bit of rest!

2. BATH TIME!
Bathtime is everything when I'm feeling sh*tty.  Fill that bath up as hot as you can stand, add some relaxation bubble bath or even some lavender drops and hop in!  I find that a hot bath helps open up my chest, not to mention it's totally relaxing (if the toddlers in bed, and the daddy is out!)

3. STEAMING
When I'm really bunged up I love to steam!  My grandad showed me this years ago, it's not like it's not commonly known, but I fill a large bowl with boiling water, add in a few drops of olbas oil and pop my head over the bowl, covering with a towel.  The steam rises up and again this is great for opening up the airways (and pretty good for a wee steam facial, win, win).

4. HOT WATER & LEMON OR PEPPERMINT TEA
I'm not fan of fruit or herbal tea, but I do love a peppermint tea or some hot water and lemon when I have a sore throat.  I often add a splash of honey to the lemon & water.  I'm not sure if it even helps but in the mind it does, so that's good enough for me!

5. SOUP
I love soup any time of the year, even summer, but when you're under the weather there is nothing better than a huge bowl of homemade soup and a warm bread roll for dipping!  I usually don't have much of an appetite when I'm feeling pants so soup is my saving grace.

6. FRESH BEDDING
So this may seem a little strange, but when I'm feeling ill there is nothing better than climbing into a clean, fluffy bed!  When you're already feeling a bit meh, comfort is what you need!  I always change the bedding when I'm ill, it just settles my mind and I feel better (crazy lady).

7. FACE MASK
After festering for a few days there comes a point where enough is enough and you just need to get up, pull yourself together and put on your big girl pants.  I always feel so much better when I have my big girl pants on! The rehabilitation starts with a hydrating skin mask.  Usually after the cold my face is all dry, especially around my nose.  I am a huge fan of NSPA products and I can recommend this ONE!

8. MOISTURISING & TANNING
Ok, so this may not be for everyone but I personally feel like everyone looks better with a bit of color.  After a long soak in the bath I like to moisturise all over and apply some fake tan, I usually do this in the evening and sleep on it.  I use St Moritz, its a brilliant inexpensive tan thats easy to use, it goes on as mouse and provides a guide colour for a non patchy application.

9. FRESH AIR
Although going out is the last thing on my mind, getting some fresh air always makes me feel better even on the days when I feel my worst.  Being cooped up in doors, constantly surrounded by your own germs is pretty vile. When you can, try and get out, even if it's just around the block.

10. CHOCOLATES & MOVIES 
When you're feeling miserable, the weather is bad and you just want to curl up and sleep for a week, there is nothing better than clean PJ's, a warm blanket, a cup of something hot, a chocolate bar and your favourite movie!  It's the only time that I don't feel bad about sitting on the sofa and doing nothing (when theres a 100 other things to do).  Where you can just enjoy that moment, enjoy your chocolate and relax!
